How to Clean Your Kitchen Wood Cabinets?

Kitchen cabinets go through a lot of abuse. Every now and then, they might suffer cooking splatters and accidental spills. Keeping them clean and maintaining them will ensure that they are in good shape.

So, how do you clean the modern walnut cabinets you have in your kitchen? At first glance, it appears like a basic question. But if you read what experts have to say, you will be surprised that there is a lot more to it than meets the eye.

If you are planning on cleaning your kitchen cabinets, take a look at the tips given below.

1.Dust Regularly

Dusting can go a long way in keeping the walnut kitchen cabinets clean. It is not something intensive. Dusting might appear to be a little counter  intuitive to all the dust on vertical surfaces. However, with time, dust is going to accumulate on the exterior of the cupboard, especially if you fry a lot. Fine oil particles are going to settle on the surface. Thereafter, they become like magnets and attract dust.

Dust regularly with a lint-free cloth. You can also use a duster for preventing the combination of dust and oil from forming hard-to-remove and sticky residue from the cabinets. If you leave it unattended, it will start to attract more dust.

2.Choose the Right Cleaning Solution

Avoid choosing any abrasive cleaners or scrub brushes to clean the kitchen cabinets. Harsh scrubbing of the walnut kitchen cabinets can damage its paint or finish. The best thing to do is to prepare a gentle cleaner by combining two parts of hot water and one part of mild dish washing liquid. Another good mix is hot water and white vinegar in the same ratio. The hot water will help in softening the grunge and grease. Thus, you will be able to take them off the wood cabinets very easily. Pour the cleaning solution into a spray bottle and then you are good to go.

3.Handle the Tight Spots with an Old Toothbrush

A few walnut cabinets have deep grooves and ornate trim that a rag just cannot access. In such cases, all you have to do is dip the toothbrush in a cleaning solution and then use it for gently scrubbing the spots that are hard to reach. Make sure that you don’t forget the spaces around the cabinet knobs and handles, and the cabinet door’s edges. These parts can be difficult to reach with a rag.

4.Rinse and Dry

When you are done cleaning the cabinets with the cleaning solution, rinse the surface of the cherry kitchen cabinet with warm water and a clean cloth. Warm water tends to evaporate much more easily in comparison to room-temperature or cold water. You need to make sure that your cabinets aren’t exposed to water for a longer time. So, after you have cleaned your cabinets with any solution, you have to wipe them off using a dry cloth.

5.Avoid Exposure to Excessive Light

If your cherry wood cabinets are exposed to excessive sunlight, it can have a damaging effect on the cabinets since they are made of natural wood. Even if they are painted, they are susceptible to fading when exposed to sunlight for a prolonged period of time. Use window covering as it will help in eliminating or at least reducing damage caused by exposure to sunlight.

6.Prevent Exposure to Excessive Moisture

Exposure to excessive moisture can lead to irreversible damage to the wooden cabinets. It can be caused by steam crock pots, cook tops, and poorly sealed dishwasher doors. In case it is exposed to moisture, you can easily wipe it off the surface for minimizing the damage. If the wood absorbs less moisture, you should try to dry it out the wood.
